Bank of Saint Lucia Supports Regional Dialogue on the Future of Credit Union Investments

Oct 12, 2026

Gros Islet, Saint Lucia, 12th October, 2026 – How can credit unions put their accumulated resources to work while safeguarding members’ funds? This question took centre stage at the 19th OECS Credit Union Summit, where BOSL Global Investment Fund and BOSL Investment Banking Services supported regional discussions on investment strategy and the future of the cooperative movement.

Held at the Royalton Antigua from September 22nd – 27th under the theme “Navigating Change: From Resilience to Results”, the forum examined the challenges facing the cooperative movement and the decisions needed to strengthen its institutions. This was an opportunity for Bank of Saint Lucia’s Global Investment Fund and Investment Banking Services to contribute to a conversation speaking to how regional institutions can strengthen their capacity to serve members over the long term. Key contributions to that discussion came through the panel, “From Surplus to Investment Strategy: Putting Capital to Work” which explored how institutions can deploy capital strategically while balancing diversification, liquidity, risk, regulatory responsibilities and capital preservation.

The Summit offered an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between investment professionals and the cooperative financial sector. According to Lawrence Jean, Manager, BOSL Investment Banking Services, the importance of that relationship lies in making investment knowledge useful beyond the financial services industry itself. “Credit unions’ investment decisions must be weighed against their responsibility to members, including the need to maintain sufficient liquidity while seeking appropriate opportunities for long term financial growth. We welcome opportunities to share knowledge and contribute to that conversation across the region.”

Though credit unions and investment managers operate in different capacities, there is considerable value in creating greater understanding of how investment markets work, what options are available and what institutions should consider before committing funds. Shaiiede Kallicharan, General Manager of BOSL Fund Management Company, highlighted the value of regional collaboration in strengthening investment decision making. “Our financial institutions do not have to navigate changing economic conditions in isolation. Sharing expertise, examining investment approaches and building relationships across territories can help credit unions make informed decisions that reflect their mandates, risk tolerance and obligations to members.”

This year’s sponsorship builds on the Bank’s engagement with the regional credit union movement. In 2025, BOSL Investment Banking Services and BOSL Fund Management Company co-sponsored the 18th OECS Credit Union Conference in Saint Kitts and Nevis event and engaged delegates through presentations and activities focused on the Fund and its investment offering.

Since then, the Fund has continued to extend its regional reach, including its launches in Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in early 2026. These developments reflect its efforts to make access to investment opportunities more widely available across the OECS through local partnerships.
